HJC RPHA 11

In this review article, in addition to the physical review, user reviews from different countries have been scored and added to the noise/visor sections to provide general information. Blue text contains referral links and clicking on these links will open a new tab.

South Korean helmet manufacturer HJC produced the RPHA 11 model from composite fiber material.

SAFETY

hjc rpha-11 sharp testHJC RHPA 11 passed the Sharp test with 3 stars. Another factor that is as important as the star is the impact zone diagrams, that is the colors.

HJC RPHA 11 has ECE REG 22.05 safety certificates. Unfortunately, it does not have a certificate from the Snell which has subjected it to more stringent tests.

HJC RPHA 11 has a visor locking system. Chin strap system double-d ring.

VISOR

The HJ-26 visor is used in the HJC RPHA 11 and comes with a pinlock. The HJ-26 visor is suitable for tear-off use and can be removed without any tools.

If we generalize the reviews of HJC RPHA 11 users, we can give 7.9/10 points to the angle(wide+vertical) of the visor. Wide field of view may be similar in most of the helmets but vertical field of view is rarely similar. Therefore, the vertical field of view should be considered as this is an important element. The vertical viewing angle must be above the standard so that you can see clearly in front of you in the tuck position. On the HJC RPHA 11, the vertical viewing angle is above standard.

The vertical viewing angle was given 10/10 points by COAU.

Also, it comes standard dark smoke shield.

VENTILATION

HJC RPHA 11 has three ventilation channels on the chin side for air intake, two ventilation channels just above the visor, and two ventilation channels on the upper front. There are four ventilation channels on the back for the air outlet.

The ventilation duct in the middle of the chin can be opened and closed, but since the ventilation ducts on the sides are designed to remain open all the time, they cannot be closed.

Since the two ventilation channels just above the visor are controlled from a single place, they can be opened and closed simultaneously, not separately.

The two ventilation channels on the upper front can be adjusted on/off separately. These ventilation channels can also be adjusted gradually.

Since the four ventilation channels on the back are designed to remain open all the time, they cannot be closed.

The ventilation structure of the helmet was given 14.3/20 points and its aerodynamic structure was given 10.3/15 points by COAU.

NOISE

If we generalize the reviews of HJC RPHA 11 users, we can give 5.7/10 points to the noise. You should not be surprised by different reviews. The reason for this is all of us have different levels of hearing, riding styles, motorcycle types, and motorcycles that offer different levels of wind protection and riding at different speeds.

In the wind tunnel test at 100 km/h (60mph) which has been done by COAU, the sound level in the helmet is 94.1 dB(A). If the noise level is an important criterion for helmet selection, we recommend taking dB(A) levels of COAU as a reference.

SIZE CHART

hjc rpha-11 sizeHJC RPHA 11 has been designed for an Intermediate Oval head shape and produced with three different shell sizes.

OTHER FEATURES

HJC RPHA 11 has an emergency kit, breath deflector, glasses groove, speaker pockets, chin curtain, and removable/washable inner pads. The top pad and cheek pads are soft. The quality of the inner pads meets the standards in this price segment.

NOTE: Since the black color visor is out of the box content, 1 more point has been given to the features section

Suggestion: The filtering system on the helmet reviews page can help you find the helmet you want.

SAFETY

Sharp Rating Sharp is a company that was founded in 2007, which is controlled by the British Government and puts helmets through durability tests. They have always raised question marks as some models of upper class brands were given low ratings. Nonetheless, they are an independent institution that rates helmets by testing them all in the same way. 3 Star
Snell Certification Snell is a non-profit organization that was built in USA in the year of 1957. Snell tests are truly vigorous and challenging. Some models of the brands like Arai, Bell, Shoei, Hjc have passed this test. The number of helmets that could pass this test is limited. Snell standards are renewed in every 5 years.
Chin Strap It is the chin strap of the helmet. They are categorized as Micrometric or Double D Ring. Double D Ring fastening system is the one that is being used in MOTOGP. It is present in professional helmets and it is the safest fastening system. Double D-Ring
Visor Lock If you are planning on using your helmet while driving with a speed of 240km/s or more, we definitely recommend you to get a helmet with visor lock. Otherwise, the force applied by the wind may open the visor of the helmet.

FEATURES

Pinlock Pinlock is perhaps one of the greatest technologies. It completely prevents the fog on your visor that is caused by moisture, your breath or the cold weather. Your vision is never restricted. It is not provided with all helmets. Included
Tear Off
Emergency Kit Emergency Quick Release System. It is the system for quickly removing the pad in case of emergency. By holding the hook below the pad, you can rapidly remove the pad.
Breath Deflector It is a fog preventing factor for the helmets that don’t have pinlock. Another benefit of it is that if you lift the visor while moving, the wind won’t make breathing more difficult.
Glasses Groove This means you can use glasses with this helmet.
Internal Sun Visor It is the black visor on the helmets that looks like sunglasses and they are provided with UV filters. They can be opened or closed. You can think of it as wearing sunglasses.
Speaker Pockets Intercom is a device that connects via Bluetooth. Intercom dock is where the earphones of this device are placed. By connecting your intercom device with your phone, you can make a phone call, listen to music or connect with other intercom devices while driving. You don’t need to wear an additional earphone or another device.
Chin Curtain It is one of the features that affect both isolation and comfort, since the helmets usually get wind from below.
Spesific Feature/s If “READ THE DESCRIPTION” is written below the specifications, it means that there is a specific situation about the helmet. It is recommended for you to visit the specific page of the helmet and read what is written under the “OVERVIEW” tab.

COAU RATING

Noise Inside The helmet's ability to reduce noise, to minimise the wind resistance and to encourage ventilation inside the helmet was assessed in a wind tunnel at a simulated riding speed of 100 km/h. The helmet was fitted on a mannequin designed for acoustic measurement. The mannequin was equipped with a specially designed microphone placed inside one of the mannequin's pinnas (ears). The wind resistance was measured using the force plate which is part of the wind tunnel and the ventilation was measured by measuring the pressure drop on the face and crown areas of the mannequin. 94.1 dB(A) - 100 km/h
Ventilation 14.3/20
Aerodynamics 10.3/15
Vertical Field of View 10/10

    Terrible shield design

At any speed over 35 mph the shield will not stay open. The detents are weak allowing the shield to flop down. HJC said this is normal because it's a race helmet. This is a known defect that HJC refuses to acknowledge. They're more RPHA 11 helmets discounted heavily for sale on Ebay and Facebook marketplace than in online stores.
